Planes, Trains & Automobiles Festival: Catch a glimpse of classic cars, discover local artists, eat pancakes cooked by commissioners, learn about trains, build your own planes, dance the night away, see and ride in military vehicles, and more at the Planes, Trains & Automobiles event in Chehalis!
The Planes Trains and Automobiles festival will be held Saturday, July 27, in Chehalis. Premier sponsor is Security State Bank with sponsors Chariots Car Club, Chehalis Business Association, Chehalis-Centralia Airport, Oregon Rally Group, Popes Kids Place, Port of Chehalis, Twin Cities Trading Post and Veterans Memorial Museum.
The festival features a packed schedule of events for all ages. The Chariots Car Club will hold their 6th annual car show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in downtown Chehalis. Entry fee is $20 and includes free lunch at select restaurants. Dash plaques will be given to the first 125 cars, and raffle prizes and goody bags will be given away.
Young people ages 8 to 17 can fly free between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. as Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 609 hosts and Young Eagles Flight Rally at Chehalis-Centralia Airport, 1461 N.W. Louisiana Ave.
Concert on the Green, a benefit for Popes Kids Place, will be held from 5 to 11 p.m. at the Riverside Golf Club. Taste wine from 5 to 8 p.m. from local wineries including Heymann Whinery, Scatter Creek Winery, Birchfield Winery and Bateaux Cellars. Entertainment will be provided by Joe Blaser Jazz Quartet, Modern Day Hero, Ben Potter Band and Black Market Revue. Cost is $30 for concert, food and wine tasting or $10 for concert only.
A steam train will depart from the Chehalis-Centralia Railroad and Museum, 1101 S.W. Sylvenus St., at 1 and 3 p.m. for the Milburn ride and 5 p.m. for the Ruth Riverview Ride.
Discover! Childrens Museum, 1461 N.W. Louisiana Ave., will give $1 off regular $4 admission with each steam train ticket stub presented on July 27 and 28. In addition, a train conductor in full uniform will visit the museum and provide a photo opportunity. A paper airplane building and flying contest will also be held.
Lewis County Historical Museum, 599 N.W. Front St., will host an all-you-can-eat breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. of blueberry pancakes, eggs, sausage, coffee and juice prepared by the Lewis County Commissioners. From noon to 3 p.m., get a hot dog and chips for $2, a hot dog, chips and drink for $2.50 or a Big Kahuna chili dog, chips and drink for $3. Any purchase of food gets you into the museum for free that day.
See, touch and ride in military vehicles at Veterans Memorial Museum, 100 S.W. Veterans Way. Ride in a 1951 M37 for a $5 donation.
Race against the clock at RallyCross at Port of Chehalis, 321 Maurin Road. The RallyCross will be held Saturday and Sunday and includes individual automobiles racing against the clock around a course delineated by cones. For more information, visit oregonrally.com.
ARTrails artists will have their art on display in Chehalis businesses from July 27 to Aug. 3.
People ages 21 and over can dance the night away at a street dance at Market Street Pub, 523 N. Market Blvd.
