Grains and Gardens with WSU Extension

Thurston County Commissioner Sandra Romero Hosts Monthly Coffee Chat


Whether you’re an agricultural producer or a home gardener, the Thurston County WSU Extension Office can provide you with the resources you need to cultivate healthy plants.  On Monday, January 28, join Commissioner Romero and her guest, Director and Agriculture Extension Faculty Dr. Lucas Patzek, for coffee, and learn about all the ways WSU Extension can help you this growing season.

Dr. Patzek is working to develop a stronger South Puget Sound food system through research-based information and educational programs, participatory research and demonstration projects, and community food system development. 

WSU Extension offers a variety of community resources including the Master Recycler Composter and Master Gardener programs; information on topics including vegetable and fruit horticulture, small grains, forestry, and livestock; and local health and wellness programs including consumer food safety, retail food safety, and nutrition education.  WSU Extension also operates Thurston County’s 4-H program which provides a wide variety of activities for youth.

Once a month, Commissioner Romero meets with community members for informal coffee chats.  These meetings give you the opportunity to talk about issues of concern, ask her questions about the county, and share ideas. Commissioner Romero provides participants' coffee.  She is the representative of District 2, which includes Yelm, Lacey, and Rainier.
